Nashvegas Baby!!

Up Next... Vanderbilt Following the annihilation of Tennessee in Knoxville it was on to our next opponent the Commodores of Vanderbilt who reside in the vibrant city of Nashville, Tennessee. We booked another Super 8 about miles from the heart of Nashville and off we went departing on Friday from Athens and arriving around 9 PM. We took an Uber into the city on Friday night and my oh my comparing Nashville to Knoxville is like comparing Chick-Fil-A to Hardee's. Nashville had everything, delicious food, tall buildings, live music, and a surprisingly diverse crowd. We spent all of our time on the Broadway Street strip because that seemed to be where all the action was happening. We spent majority of that time at this Bar/Restaurant called Acme Feed & Seed. A massive 4 story establishment that has a quaint restaurant on the first floor along with a stage at the front and bar along the back. When you went up the stairs you entered a lounge area with leather couches large TVs,

Shaky Knees

Day One When my buddy told me his dad was able to snag 8 wristbands to the annual Shaky Knees Festival I was ecstatic. He was kind enough to invite a bunch of friends rather than sell them. We all arrived to Centennial Olympic Park at 4:00 PM on Friday and got to see some awesome bands. One of my favorites Portugal The Man kicked off our day and played their new single at the time "Feel It Still." Following them was Cage The Elephant, and they put on a hell of a show. The leader singer has an incredible stage presence, dancing all around the stage and diving into the crowd song after song. We were able to catch 20 minutes of The Pixes that were sadly a bit disappointing because they played all songs that my friends and I had never heard of none of their classics like "Monkey Gone To Heaven", "Here Comes Your Man", or "Where Is My Mind?" The night concluded with an epic finish courtesy of LCD Soundsystem. A group that hasn't toured in yea

Tennessee Total Annihilation

Off to Knoxville This past weekend 3 of my roommates and I made the trip to Knoxville for the Georgia vs. Tennessee game. We were excited because we knew our defense is solid this year and UT's offense is lacking. We decided to stay at a Super 8 which was a surprisingly pleasant experience. Check-in was quick and easy, the room was quaint and had the essential amenities such as a 40" tv and a mini fridge, and the best part of the hotel was that we had a perfect view of a Taco Bell right outside our window. The Knoxville bar scene is nothing compared to Athens but they were lively for sure with live music in almost all of them. The Tennessee students varied in how they treated us. To our surprise the guys were nice and admitted that we had the better football accepting that we would most likely would (and did) beat them. The girls on the other hand were a whole different story. Not a lot of love coming from them with one girl coming up to us and saying "my mother told

No Ordinary Family Vacation The first fifteen years of my life my family like clockwork would pack up the car and drive to Myrtle Beach. Until I got to college they would sprinkle in a few other beach vacations. I love the beach and enjoy nothing more than eating local seafood and soaking up the sun to get a nice tan (and I can get very tan thanks to my half Italian mother). My parents realized they were falling into the loop of having the same vacation year after year and wanted to spice things up. So they booked a flight to San Francisco, a hotel at Fisherman's Wharf, a hotel at Carmel and a lodge at Yosemite National Park. As soon as I heard they decided to book all of this and give us the full northern California experience I was ecstatic.  From East Coast to West Coast We landed late in the evening so we couldn't soak in the beauty of the morning that night. When we woke up and started to explore by golly what a magnificent city. The weather was perfect every day,

A Bite out of the Big Apple

Not Another Beach Vacation My buddy and I Spencer didn't want to fall into the loop of driving down to Florida for Spring Break like a majority of college students do every. We wanted to be active and fully immerse ourselves in a city that had a lot to offer. Can you think of a more vibrant city than New York, New York? Neither could we so immediately went forward to the planning stages. We were able to book a flight for cheap through American Airlines and a cheap place to stay in East Village Through AirBNB. Knowing we were going to be overwhelmed by all that New York has to offer we tried our best to follow an itinerary each day. After researching restaurants, events, and attractions we had a fully planned out schedule for our time in the city and could not wait to take off.  New York is a Cold Place My cousin lives in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan so I wanted to make an effort too meet up with her during our stay. In order to meet up with her we had to walk 20 min west

A Trip to Our Nation's Capital

Background This extraordinary experience all begins with one of my good buddies named Brian who I met while here at UGA. This man knows more about how our federal government operates than anyone I know. As long as I've known him he wanted to work on The Hill. Having interned in D.C. already when he graduated in May of 2016, he decided to move to the Capitol in search of a job. He had success pretty early on and landed a job as a staff assistant for Senator Flake from Arizona. We've kept in touch off and on since he left, he kept telling me I needed to visit since I had never been to Washington D.C. before. With it being a about a 10 hour drive and him busy with work most of the time we had to plan the trip on the perfect weekend. After a solid amount of planning, my roommate Chris and I chose a good date for a time to visit, got the approval from Brian and were set to go. Mission D.C. We benefitted from planning this trip far out because congress was on recess Brian

Talladega Nights

Image
Essential Background Info Deep in the heart of Alabama, a spectacle of epic proportions take place. Dozens of cars reach supersonic speeds in an effort to wiz past their opponents and come out the champion. Talladega Speedway is known to have massive car wrecks where cars will lose tires, flip over, and sometimes go up in flames, these occurrences make up what is notably called "The Big One". Although the race is extremely exciting on its own, my buddies and I wanted to immerse ourselves in the full Talladega experience. We all purchased the college pass which included a ticket to the race on Sunday, ticket to the infield concert featuring Charlie Daniels Band on Saturday night, access to all Talladega activities, and access to the college camping ground all for the sweet price of $24. I do not own boots or any sort of country attire so I decided to make a trip to the closest thrift store for some much needed purchases. The event was taking place over Cinco De Mayo weeke
